Overview

The village and its ski area

Flaine is in Haute-Savoie, France, and its skiing is part of Le Grand Massif. Across that wider ski area there are 173.7 km of mapped classified downhill runs and 69 lifts. The ski area runs from 682 m at its lowest mapped point to 2485 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures for the whole Grand Massif, not the altitude of the village itself.

This guide covers the resort of Flaine, meaning Forum, Forêt and Les Gérats, which is where the ski-school club, nursery, residence and pool mentioned below are found. Samoëns, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt are in the same Grand Massif area but are not covered here. The terrain is shared across the area.

For families, the run mix is a useful number. Beginner terrain makes up 58.16% of the mapped classified downhill runs. On pricing, we place Flaine in a mid planning tier. This is based on lift pass prices only, as no lodging prices were sampled. In 2026/27 the Grand Massif adult day pass costs EUR 63, at one rate for the whole season. The Flaine-only pass is cheaper, at EUR 60.70. Passes of 2 to 7 days cost EUR 63 a day, so six days come to EUR 378. Accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals can move a real trip into another tier, so treat this as a planning guide and not a quote.

Family fit

How it suits a family

The main children's ski option is ESF Flaine's Club Piou-Piou. It takes children from 3, or from 4 during French school holidays, in groups of at most nine. It runs Sunday to Friday from 13 December 2026 to 16 April 2027 and is closed on Saturdays. Sessions are in the mornings, 09:15 to 12:15. Morning and afternoon sessions run from 7 February to 5 March 2027. You meet at Flaine Forum and need to book at least 24 hours ahead. These are ski lessons, not daycare. Six days cost EUR 240 in winter 2026/27. The official tourism listing includes English among the languages, but it is a tourism listing and not the school's own page, so arrange the language when you book.

For actual childcare, Garderie Les Choucas at Flaine Forum takes children aged 3 to 10 by the half or full day. It runs Sunday to Friday from 7 December 2026 to 18 April 2027. Hours vary by period, prices are not published and care is in French. Booking before your stay is strongly advised. The Les P'tits Loups crèche, for 15 months to 3 years, only shows summer 2026 dates so far.

Children under 8 ski free for the day on proof of age. The free pass is issued at the ticket office for the current day only, so confirm the conditions. An optional 2 to 7 day Mini pass costs EUR 29. For ski-in/ski-out, Belambra Panorama, a holiday club at Flaine Les Gérats in upper Flaine, is listed as directly at the foot of the slopes and accessible on skis. It is open 12 December 2026 to 17 April 2027, with free shuttles, and access depends on snow. Non-skiers can try snowshoe walks on marked trails, walking paths in the Col de Pierre Carrée Nordic area or dog sledding with two providers. The heated indoor pool at Le Centaure in Flaine Forum opens 18 December 2026 to 11 April 2027. Activity pages are undated, so book providers directly.

Flaine's published season is 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027, which covers Christmas and New Year and the February half-term weeks from 8, 15 and 22 February. For Easter, the other Grand Massif stations close by 11 April 2027, so after that only Flaine's own lifts run. Club Piou-Piou and Les Choucas both run to at least 16 April. Check your school calendar, live lift status and care dates, as there is no snow guarantee.

  8. 8Price tier22 Oct 2026

Mid planning tier. Basis (owner decision 2026-10-22): official dated ski prices only; no lodging price was sampled. The batch rule compares the dated adult peak day pass with the EUR 69 premium-season day pass behind the existing mid tier for Jerzens (Hochzeiger), using the matcher's tier factors: at or below 0.8 times is budget only when dated school or childcare prices agree, at or above 1.3 times is premium, otherwise mid; luxury needs lodging evidence. The 2026–2027 Grand Massif adult day pass costs EUR 63 (Flaine only EUR 60.70), one rate for the whole season, about 0.91 times the reference; passes of 2–7 days cost EUR 63 a day, so six days come to EUR 378. ESF Flaine's Club Piou-Piou costs EUR 240 for six days in winter 2026/27. Accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals can move a real trip into another tier; this is a planning tier, not a quote.

  12. 12Easter23 Oct 2026

Published 2026/27 operations: Flaine 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027; Samoëns and Les Carroz close on 11 April 2027 and Morillon earlier, so after 11 April only Flaine's own lifts run. Suitable for an Easter break under the owner rule 2026-10-23: the family area, meaning the beginner lifts and the kids-club or ski-school children's area, and its lifts must run through Friday 16 April 2027, the last day of the latest UK Easter school holidays. The ESF Club Piou-Piou in Flaine's snow gardens runs from 13 December 2026 to Friday 16 April 2027 (closed on Saturdays), and Garderie Les Choucas at Flaine Forum is open from 7 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
