Overview
The village and its ski area
Alpbach is in Tyrol, Austria, and its skiing is part of the linked Ski Juwel Alpbachtal-Wildschönau area. The area has 66 km of mapped classified downhill runs served by 22 lifts. Those figures cover the whole ski area, not just the slopes above the village.
The mapped ski area runs from 818 m at its lowest point to 2031 m at its highest. These are ski-area figures, not the altitude of Alpbach itself. It is a mid-sized area that suits families who want a few days of varied skiing without a huge lift system.
Beginner terrain makes up 26.75% of the mapped classified runs. That is a modest share, so it works best for families whose children are past their very first lessons, or who are happy to spend the first days in ski school. On budget, our planning tier for Alpbach is the lower one. A family of four (two adults, children aged 6 and 10) staying seven nights from 13 February 2027 came out at a median of about EUR 74.55 per person per night in self-catering apartments and huts, with final cleaning and visitor tax included. That is a planning figure, not a quote. Lift passes, rental and ski school are extra. An adult one-day pass is EUR 71.50 in high season (19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027) and EUR 64.50 in low season.

Family fit
How it suits a family
Alpbach has an English-speaking ski school, Alpbach Aktiv, which lists English among its teaching languages and publishes 2026/27 course dates. Ask for a suitable course explicitly when you book. For younger children, a free child pass is listed for children under 6 (born in 2021 or later), under the lift operator's conditions, so confirm the details before you travel.
Childcare is mostly tied to hotels. Galtenberg in Inneralpbach runs a supervised children's club for hotel guests aged 3 to 10, plus a separate teen programme, advertised daily from 08:30 to 21:00. It also advertises daily non-ski baby care from the seventh day of life. That is a hotel-guest service, so confirm acceptance, hours, staffing and reservations before relying on it. Ski-in/ski-out accommodation exists in the wider Alpbach municipality, for example beside a piste near the lifts in Inneralpbach. The historic village centre is not slope-side. Hotel-described non-skier activities also exist, but check routes, rides and transfers for your own stay.
For UK school holidays, the published 2026/27 Alpbach lift season runs from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. That covers the Christmas holidays and February half-term. Easter is less certain. Closure comes before some April school-holiday dates, so an early Easter may work but a full Easter break may not. Check your school calendar, lift status and childcare dates, because snow is never guaranteed.
