Overview
The village and its ski area
Fiss is a village in Tyrol, Austria, and it shares its ski area with Serfaus and Ladis. Together they offer 146.4 km of mapped classified downhill runs served by 48 lifts. The ski area runs from 1222 m at its lowest mapped point to 2817 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures, not the altitude of the village itself.
For beginners, 24.74% of the mapped classified runs are beginner terrain. That is a fair share, though some other Austrian resorts have a much higher proportion (see below). Families with mixed abilities should find plenty to progress onto, but complete novices may want to check the terrain near their lodging before booking.
On cost, our planning tier for Fiss is mid. For a family of four (two adults, children aged 6 and 10) staying seven nights from 13 February 2027, the median came to about EUR 104.38 per person per night. Treat that as a guide only: the sampled apartments split into a cheaper group (EUR 56 to 64) and a pricier group (EUR 145 to 163), so your own figure could land well either side. Final cleaning is missing from some totals and local tax is extra. An adult one-day Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis pass is EUR 80.50 in the 2026/27 high season (19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027 and 20 to 29 March 2027). The one-day price is the same with or without the guest card, whose discount starts with longer passes.

Family fit
How it suits a family
Fiss has a good set of options for younger children. Berta's Kindergarten in Fiss takes babies from 3 months and is dedicated non-ski childcare. Reserve in advance and confirm current hours. Schlosshotel Fiss offers a daily supervised Kids Club from age 2, including winter hours, but this is hotel guest provision, so confirm availability before relying on it. A children's club is listed for the resort, and ages and programme conditions apply.
On the lift pass, the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis 2026/27 tariff lets children born in 2021 or later travel free, with photo ID. Children born 2012 to 2020 pay the child rate. In practice that means children under 6 for the season, but confirm the conditions when you buy. The local ski school lists German and English as its principal teaching languages. A separate English-only ability group depends on staffing and group sizes, so ask when you book. Ski-in/ski-out is available at Schlosshotel Fiss, which has a lift from the hotel to the piste. That is specific to this property and not something to assume for all lodging.
Non-skiers and rest-day plans include winter routes and toboggan operation in Fiss, though access depends on lift and route opening. For UK school holidays, published operations run from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. Christmas and February half-term both fall inside that window. Easter is less certain: closure comes before some April school-holiday dates, so an early Easter may work but a full Easter break may not. Check your school calendar, lift status and childcare dates, and note that snow is never guaranteed.

8Price tier23 Oct 2026
Mid planning tier from dated accommodation prices (owner decision 2026-10-23): median EUR 104.38 per person per night for a family of four (two adults, children aged 6 and 10), 7 nights from 13 February 2027, 6 offers, median of the middle 4; ratio 1.04 to the EUR 100.27 holiday-week reference (GBP 70, the middle of the matcher's mid accommodation band, times the matcher's 1.2 holiday-week factor, at the ECB rate of 0.8377 GBP per euro on 22 October 2026; below 0.9 is budget, 0.9 to 1.15 mid, 1.15 to 1.5 premium, 1.5 or more luxury). Offers: six apartments from operators' own 2026/27 price lists or booking engines, in the tourist board's list order, because the tourist board's own search returns no dated prices. Prices split into two groups (EUR 56 to 64 and EUR 145 to 163 per person per night) and the median falls between them, so the tier depends on the sample (about 0.97 to 1.45 with other choices). Final cleaning is missing from two totals; local tax is extra. Lift passes, rental and ski school are priced from the separate day-pass field. This is a planning tier, not a quote.
