Overview
The village and its ski area
Hinterglemm is in Salzburg, Austria, and its skiing is shared with neighbouring villages through the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. The area has 225.1 km of mapped classified downhill runs served by 82 lifts, so a week's holiday is unlikely to run out of new pistes. The mapped ski area runs from 785 m at its lowest point to 2090 m at its highest. Those are figures for the whole ski area, not the altitude of the village itself.
For parents of newer skiers, the mix of terrain is the main draw. Beginner terrain makes up 65.78% of the mapped classified downhill runs. That is a shared, area-wide figure, but it suggests families who are still building confidence should find plenty of suitable slopes.
Budget matters for most UK families, and Hinterglemm sits in our budget planning tier. The estimate is a median of EUR 78.50 per person per night for a family of four (two adults and children aged 6 and 10) staying seven nights from 13 February 2027. It is based on self-catering apartments, many of them unrated private houses, so it does not cover the many 4 and 5-star hotels. Local tax and final cleaning may be extra, at a few euros per person per night. For lift passes, an adult one-day Ski ALPIN CARD costs EUR 82 in the 2026/27 peak season, from 19 December 2026 to 12 March 2027. The same ticket covers Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, Zell am See and Kaprun. Treat all of this as a planning guide rather than a quote.

Family fit
How it suits a family
Children under 6 may ski free. The Ski ALPIN CARD 2026/27 tariff covers children born in 2021 or younger, with a free ski pass and a photo, when they are accompanied by an adult. Confirm the conditions before you book. For lessons, an English-speaking ski school is available. SKILL offers English children's group lessons and language-matched private lessons in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Request your language and meeting place in advance.
Childcare is mainly tied to hotels. The Ellmauhof family hotel runs supervised children's clubs for hotel guests, so check the age group and programme when you reserve. Its baby care runs daily from 09:00 to 19:30 (from four months). Toddler care runs daily from 08:30 to 21:00, with trained staff. One-to-one care is available for a fee. These services are for hotel guests only. If you are not staying at a hotel with its own childcare, ask about alternatives before you book.
Ski-in/ski-out accommodation is available. At the Ellmauhof, access is via the neighbouring Bergfried lift, and it applies to that property and open connecting pistes. For a rest day, the hotel describes Reiterkogel tobogganing and sleigh rides from the hotel. Check the weather, tour availability and any guest restrictions first.
On UK school holidays, the published 2026/27 operating dates are 27 November 2026 to 4 April 2027. That covers the Christmas holidays and February half-term. Easter needs care, because the lifts close before some April school-holiday dates. An early Easter may work. Check your school calendar, lift status and childcare dates, and remember that snow is never guaranteed.

13Region24 Oct 2026
SalzburgerLand official tourism website https://www.salzburgerland.com/en/saalbach-hinterglemm/ lists Saalbach Hinterglemm as a SalzburgerLand destination, and the resort's own site https://www.saalbach.com/en gives the address A-5753 Saalbach (a Salzburg state postcode). Checked 2026-10-24. This village-region correction avoids treating the shared Skicircus label Salzburg / Tyrol (which also covers Fieberbrunn in Tyrol) as the village's state; the imported terrain remains unchanged.
