Overview

The village and its ski area

Andermatt sits in the canton of Uri in Switzerland, and its ski area is shared with Sedrun and Disentis over the Oberalp Pass. Across the three areas there are 92.2 km of mapped classified downhill runs served by 40 lifts. The ski area runs from 1217 m at its lowest mapped point to 2958 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures for the whole linked area, not the altitude of the village itself.

From Andermatt, two lifts matter most to families. The Gütsch-Express leads up to the Nätschen beginners' park and on towards Oberalp and Sedrun. The Gemsstock cable car climbs to the high terrain above the village. About 48.27% of the mapped runs are classed as beginner terrain, so there is a fair amount of gentle skiing, though it is not a resort built only around nursery slopes.

Cost is worth thinking about early. The Winter 2026/27 tariff lists an adult (21 to 64) day pass at CHF 99 when bought on the day in high season. High season runs 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 and 1 February to 7 March 2027. Outside those dates the same-day price is CHF 96, and CHF 92 if you buy online by the day before. At the ECB rate of 22 October 2026, CHF 99 is about EUR 107. That puts Andermatt in our premium planning tier. Accommodation, travel and meals can move a real trip up or down from that.

Family fit

How it suits a family

The Swiss Snowsports School Andermatt runs full-day, children-only group courses for ages 4 to 16. Sessions run 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00, with a supervised hot lunch. Children meet at 09:45 at the Gütsch-Express valley station. Groups have 4 to 10 children, or up to 12 in high season. Courses start on Mondays or Tuesdays, with weekend courses starting on Saturdays or Sundays. You must book at least three days ahead. The school says its instructors speak German and English, but an English-speaking group is not guaranteed, so ask when you book. The Chedi Andermatt also has a Kids Club room for its own guests in winter, with supervision options arranged through the concierge.

The ski school says children up to and including age 5 ride free without a ski pass. The operator's Winter 2026/27 tariff starts its child band at age 6 and does not state that free rule itself, so confirm the conditions before you book. For younger children, the small Foot nursery in Andermatt is open Monday to Friday, 06:30 to 18:30. It is closed on public holidays and between Christmas and New Year. It takes children from 3 months to school entry, with limited places under 18 months. Check booking terms and prices directly.

Off the slopes, there is a 4.7 km easy sledging run from Nätschen to Andermatt. The 2026/27 sledging ticket is valid 12 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. There is also an ice rink with skating aids for children, and marked snowshoe trails. The Uela wellness centre has a 25 m indoor pool and a children's pool, with day tickets for non-hotel guests. The Andermatt Sport Studio has a bouldering area, open daily 07:00 to 22:00.

For school holidays, the Gütsch-Express is planned to run 12 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. The Gemsstock cable car is planned to run 14 November 2026 to 18 April 2027, subject to snow. Christmas holidays and the February half-term weeks from 8, 15 and 22 February fall inside that season. A full Easter break is less certain, because the Gütsch-Express is due to close on 4 April 2027, which may be before your holiday ends. An earlier Easter stay may work. Check your school calendar and live lift status before booking.

The tourism board's listing places Guesthouse Skiklub (Gotthardstrasse 94) just 100 metres from the valley station of the Andermatt–Gemsstock cable car, and lists Andermatt Alpine Apartments (Gütschgasse 6, Andermatt Reuss) at the village entrance, a few minutes' walk from the railway station. Applies to the southern edge of Andermatt by the Gemsstock cable car; the rest of the village walks to the Gemsstock cable car or the Gütsch-Express valley station, which serves the beginners' park at Nätschen.

  8. 8Price tier22 Oct 2026

Premium planning tier. Basis (owner decision 2026-10-22): official dated ski prices only; no lodging price was sampled. The batch rule compares the dated adult peak day pass with the EUR 69 premium-season day pass behind the existing mid tier for Jerzens (Hochzeiger), using the matcher's tier factors: at or below 0.8 times is budget only when dated school or childcare prices agree, at or above 1.3 times is premium, otherwise mid; luxury needs lodging evidence. Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis sells day passes at three fixed prices, not dynamic ones: the Winter 2026/27 tariff charges an adult (21–64) CHF 99 for a same-day pass in high season (19 December 2026–3 January 2027 and 1 February–7 March 2027), CHF 96 same-day in low season and CHF 92 when bought online by the day before. At the ECB reference rate of 0.9211 CHF per euro on 22 October 2026, CHF 99 is EUR 107.48, about 1.56 times the reference, and CHF 92 is EUR 99.88, about 1.45 times; both are above the premium threshold. Accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals can move a real trip into another tier; this is a planning tier, not a quote.

  12. 12Easter22 Oct 2026

Published 2026/27 operations: Gütsch-Express from Andermatt, with the Nätschen beginners' park, 12 December 2026–4 April 2027. Conservative exclusion for a full Easter break: the planned closing on 4 April 2027 does not cover all later UK April school dates; an earlier Easter stay may work. This is a planning judgement, not a claim that every Easter date is unsuitable. The Gemsstock cable car, the high sector above the village, is planned to run to 18 April 2027 and does not count under the owner convention of 2026-10-22.
