Overview

The village and its ski area

Flims is in the canton of Graubünden (the Grisons) in Switzerland, and it shares its ski area with Laax. The figures for that shared area are worth knowing before you compare it with other resorts: 122.5 km of mapped, classified downhill runs served by 37 lifts. The ski area runs from 1050 m at its lowest mapped point to 2974 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures, not the altitude of the village itself.

For families, the run mix matters more than the headline kilometres. Beginner terrain makes up 46.95% of the mapped classified downhill runs, which is close to half. That gives new skiers and children a fair amount of room to learn, while the rest of the area gives parents and more confident skiers something to progress to. If your group ranges widely in ability, this is a sensible balance, though it is not a beginner-dominated area.

Where you stay changes how the holiday works. Ski-in/ski-out accommodation is available. One example is the Stenna Selva apartment beside Stenna Center, which the official resort booking description identifies as ski-in/ski-out. Accommodation in Flims Waldhaus generally has different access, so check how a particular property connects to the slopes before you book.

Family fit

How it suits a family

For ski lessons, there is an English-speaking ski school. The official regional booking offer lists English for private ski instruction, with meeting points at the Laax or Flims valley stations. Reserve the language and dates when you book. This does not mean every group course runs in English.

Childcare is mainly a hotel-guest service. Hotel Adula advertises a winter Kids Club, and its operator describes supervision by qualified staff. The destination listing also marks the hotel as providing childcare. Ages, hours and places must be confirmed with the hotel. Minimum age and hours have not been established, so do not assume it covers babies or toddlers. We have not verified an unconditional free lift pass based on age alone, so ask about child pass terms when you price your trip. Non-skiers and rest days are covered too: the destination describes winter alternatives across Flims Laax, but individual sites and operating days vary.

The 2026/27 dates suit some UK school holidays better than others. The LAAX feeder lifts, including FlemX and Arena Express from Flims, run a pre-season from 28 November 2026 and a high season from 18 December 2026 to 29 March 2027. Christmas and New Year fall inside that period, as do all three February half-term planning weeks (8 to 28 February 2027). Easter is more difficult. Low season runs from 30 March to 11 April 2027, and the lifts close on 11 April, before the end of the latest UK Easter school holidays on 16 April. For that reason we don't mark Flims as suitable for an Easter break, although an earlier Easter stay may work. Check your school calendar, live lift status, snow conditions and childcare places before booking. Snow is never guaranteed.

  12. 12Region24 Oct 2026

Flims Laax official tourism website https://www.flimslaax.com/en/ (page title "Holidays in the Grisons") places Flims in the canton of Graubünden (Grisons), Switzerland. Checked 2026-10-24. This village-region correction avoids treating the shared ski-area label Glarus / Graubunden as the village's canton; the spelling follows the dataset's other Graubünden villages, and the imported terrain remains unchanged.
