Overview
The village and its ski area
Arosa sits in Graubunden, Switzerland, and its skiing is shared with Lenzerheide as one linked ski area. Across Arosa Lenzerheide there are 159.3 km of mapped classified downhill runs and 49 lifts. The ski area runs from 1240 m at its lowest mapped point to 2857 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures, not the altitude of the village itself.
For families, the run mix is a useful number. Beginner terrain makes up 59.55% of the mapped classified downhill runs, so a good share of the area suits children who are still finding their feet, and parents who want easy mileage between lessons.
Cost is worth planning early. Arosa sits in the premium price tier, which is a broad planning guide and not a live quote, and peak-week prices vary. For a sense of lift costs, an adult one-day Arosa Lenzerheide ticket (age 27 and over) is CHF 89 in the 2026/27 winter rates, about EUR 96.62 at the ECB reference rate of 22 October 2026. That is the price at the sales points, and the online shop can be cheaper.

Family fit
How it suits a family
Childcare is a mix of services, and each has its own conditions. Waldhotel runs a supervised winter kids club for hotel guests aged three and over. It is hotel-specific, so you need to reserve your accommodation and the care, and it is not a free village-wide service. Sunnastrahl offers non-ski daycare from 18 months, Monday to Friday. It is not infant care, and places and hours need to be confirmed in advance.
On the lift pass side, the ski school's information says passes are free through age five in Arosa Lenzerheide. A ticket is still required, so confirm how it is issued and the current conditions with the lift operator. Swiss Ski School Arosa advertises English instruction on request for 2026/27. Check that the group or private course you want will run in English.
If you want to be on the slopes straight from your door, ski-in/ski-out access exists but depends on the hotel. Tschuggen Grand guests have the private Tschuggen Express mountain railway and can reach and return from the slopes on skis. Not every Arosa hotel is slopeside. For days off skis, the destination describes family winter activities, and the Waldhotel winter page mentions tobogganing. Check opening times and age requirements.
The ski school gives its 2026/27 winter season as 28 November 2026 to 11 April 2027. Christmas and New Year fall inside that period, and so do all three February half-term planning weeks, 8 to 28 February 2027. Check exact opening days, snow, lift status and childcare places before booking, as snow is never guaranteed. Easter is more difficult. The children's group courses end on 11 April 2027, before the end of the latest UK Easter school holidays on Friday 16 April, so Arosa is not marked as suitable for an Easter break. An earlier Easter stay may work, but check the school calendar and live lift status first.
