Overview

The village and its ski area

Gerlitzen Alpe is a ski area in Carinthia, Austria. It has 36 km of mapped classified downhill runs served by 20 lifts. The ski area runs from 1002 m at its lowest mapped point to 1909 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures, not the altitude of any village.

The resort this guide focuses on is Feuerberg, at 1,769 m, on the Gerlitzen Alpe plateau between Lake Ossiach and Villach. The Skischule Gerlitzen branches at Kanzelhöhe, Feuerberg and Klösterle are also on the mountain. Lakeside and valley villages are not covered here, and the shared terrain applies to the whole area.

Beginner terrain makes up 36.2% of the mapped classified downhill runs. For planning, the Winter 2026/27 tariff lists an adult full day from 08:10 at EUR 73, with the child price at EUR 36.50. That puts Gerlitzen Alpe in a mid planning tier, based on ski prices only. No lodging prices were checked, so accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals could move a real trip into a different tier. Treat it as a planning guide, not a quote.

Feuerberg says its own ski cellar gives ski-in/ski-out access at 1,769 m, with about 53 km of pistes from the door. That applies to Feuerberg's own guests. Other mountain or lakeside lodging may need the gondola or a drive.

Family fit

How it suits a family

Mountain Resort Feuerberg runs a supervised Kidsclub in its own children's house. Minis are aged 3 to 6, Kids are 7 to 12, and there is a teen programme. In school holidays staff are on duty daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Outside holidays, care runs daily from 10:00 to 18:00 or by arrangement. The club takes children from age 3. Slightly younger children who are toilet-trained and have kindergarten experience are accepted only if the club leader agrees on site. Babysitters can be requested at reception if available. This is provision for resort guests, so confirm the programme for your booked week.

Skischule Gerlitzen says it teaches in German and English at its three mountain branches, and private lessons can be booked ahead. Confirm the branch and instructor, because an English-only group is not promised. A six-day children's ski course of 3.5 hours a day costs EUR 275 in the Winter 2026/27 tariff. On lift passes, children under 6 (born 2021 or later) travel free only when accompanied by a parent and carried on the lap, without their own seat or T-bar. Children under 6 travelling alone or in ski school need a Bambini ticket.

Off the slopes, the operator's map describes guided winter walks on snowshoes or in hiking boots, depending on the weather, and a sledging hill on the Gerlitzen Alpe. Feuerberg adds tubing and sledging on its meadows for guests. Check guide dates and conditions locally.

The published 2026/27 operating dates are 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. Christmas and New Year fall inside that window, as do the February half-term planning weeks starting 8, 15 and 22 February. A full Easter break is a more cautious fit, because the planned closing on 4 April 2027 does not cover all later April school dates. An earlier Easter stay may work. Check your school calendar, live lift status and care dates, and remember that snow is not guaranteed.

  8. 8Price tier22 Oct 2026

Mid planning tier. Basis (owner decision 2026-10-22): official dated ski prices only; no lodging price was sampled. The batch rule compares the dated adult peak day pass with the EUR 69 premium-season day pass behind the existing mid tier for Jerzens (Hochzeiger), using the matcher's tier factors: at or below 0.8 times is budget only when dated school or childcare prices agree, at or above 1.3 times is premium, otherwise mid; luxury needs lodging evidence. The Winter 2026/27 tariff (printed August 2026) lists EUR 73 for an adult full day from 08:10 (child EUR 36.50), about 1.06 times the reference; a six-day children's ski course of 3.5 hours a day costs EUR 275 in the same document. Accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals can move a real trip into another tier; this is a planning tier, not a quote.

  12. 12Easter22 Oct 2026

Published 2026/27 operations: 4 December 2026–4 April 2027. Conservative exclusion for a full Easter break: the planned closing on 4 April 2027 does not cover all later UK April school dates; an earlier Easter stay may work. This is a planning judgement, not a claim that every Easter date is unsuitable. Check the actual school calendar, live lift status and care dates; no snow or 2028 operating guarantee.
