Overview
The village and its ski area
Gerlos is a village in the Zillertal in Tyrol, Austria, and it is one of the Zillertal Arena villages. The skiing is shared across the whole Arena rather than belonging to Gerlos alone. The mapped ski area has 119.5 km of classified downhill runs and 54 lifts. It runs from 571 m at its lowest mapped point to 2501 m at its highest. Those are ski-area figures, not the altitude of the village itself.
For families, the useful number is the beginner share. Beginner terrain makes up 36.06% of the mapped classified runs. That is a decent amount of gentle skiing, though it is not the largest share among Austrian family resorts. Parents of children who are already confident will find plenty of variety beyond the easy runs.
The day pass is priced in the middle of the range we compare. The 2026/27 Zillertal Arena adult day pass is EUR 82, the youth pass is EUR 65.50 and the child pass is EUR 37. That is a planning guide only. Accommodation, the week you travel, getting there and meals can all move the real cost up or down. We have not sampled any lodging prices.

Family fit
How it suits a family
Gerlos has a children's club for the youngest. The Arena Kid's Club with Billy is at the Isskogelbahn mountain station. It offers supervised care from age 1, Sunday to Friday, 09:00 to 15:30, and it is closed on Saturdays. Advance registration through Michi's Schischule is essential. From age 2, a morning ski course can be combined with afternoon care. For non-skiing care, a non-skiing adult with a valid kindergarten ticket can ride up free to drop off and collect. Parents bring nappies and spare clothes.
For lessons, Michi's Schischule is in central Gerlos. It says its instructors speak German, English and Dutch, with children's courses from age 4. Skischule Gerlos Total lists German, Dutch and English as default teaching languages, with children's groups from age 6. Confirm the instructor language when you book. Some hotels offer ski-in/ski-out. Hotel Gaspingerhof has underground access to the Dorfbahn gondola, and Hotel Maria Theresia says it sits right at the piste. Both depend on snow and lift operation. A free child pass is listed for children born after 1 January 2021, which we have recorded as under 6 for 2026/27. It applies only with a paying supervising adult and under the transport conditions, so confirm the details before you rely on it.
Non-skiers have options too. Eight winter walks of 1.5 to 2.5 hours start from the village and its side valleys. There are also groomed cross-country trails, partly floodlit in the Schönachtal, from December to Easter. Check trail status before you go. Michi's Schischule teaches cross-country.
On school holidays, the Zillertal Arena is scheduled to run from 4 December 2026 to 11 April 2027, if there is enough snow. Christmas and New Year fall within that season. So do the February half-term weeks starting 8, 15 and 22 February. Easter is trickier. The planned closing on 11 April 2027 does not cover all the later April school dates, so an earlier Easter stay may work. Check your school calendar, live lift status and care dates before booking.

8Price tier22 Oct 2026
Mid planning tier. Basis (owner decision 2026-10-22): official dated ski prices only; no lodging price was sampled. The batch rule compares the dated adult peak day pass with the EUR 69 premium-season day pass behind the existing mid tier for Jerzens (Hochzeiger), using the matcher's tier factors: at or below 0.8 times is budget only when dated school or childcare prices agree, at or above 1.3 times is premium, otherwise mid; luxury needs lodging evidence. The 2026-27 Zillertal Arena adult day pass costs EUR 82 (youth EUR 65.50, child EUR 37), about 1.19 times the reference. The page lists six-day prices only for the wider Zillertaler Superskipass (adult EUR 399). Accommodation, holiday week, travel and meals can move a real trip into another tier; this is a planning tier, not a quote.
9Adult day pass23 Oct 2026

10Christmas22 Oct 2026
Published 2026/27 operations: Zillertal Arena 4 December 2026–11 April 2027, if there is enough snow. Christmas and New Year lie within the published season. Check the actual school calendar, live lift status and care dates; no snow or 2028 operating guarantee.
11February half-term22 Oct 2026
Published 2026/27 operations: Zillertal Arena 4 December 2026–11 April 2027, if there is enough snow. The February 2027 half-term planning weeks (from 8, 15 and 22 February) lie within the published season. Check the actual school calendar, live lift status and care dates; no snow or 2028 operating guarantee.
12Easter22 Oct 2026
Published 2026/27 operations: Zillertal Arena 4 December 2026–11 April 2027, if there is enough snow. Conservative exclusion for a full Easter break: the planned closing on 11 April 2027 does not cover all later UK April school dates; an earlier Easter stay may work. This is a planning judgement, not a claim that every Easter date is unsuitable. Check the actual school calendar, live lift status and care dates; no snow or 2028 operating guarantee.
13Region22 Oct 2026
The cited Gerlos hotel places the village in the Zillertal in Tyrol, Austria. This village-region override avoids presenting the shared Zillertal Arena label 'Salzburg / Tyrol' as the village address; terrain is unchanged.
